OUT NOW

When the world locked down, I found an unexpected chronicler: my own fictional hero.

As the COVID-19 pandemic shattered normality, I wanted to keep track of what was happening. Lacking the emotional distance for diary writing, I handed the pen to Gareth Flynn – one of the main characters from the Power of Zero series.

This is the result. Gareth’s lockdown diary – a day-by-day account of the realities of the pandemic set in the Power of Zero world.

It’s a time capsule, a writer’s survival tactic, and a unique love letter to the stories that sustain us.

OUT NOW

A library no one visits. A glade of trees that listen. A stranger who leaves messages on autumn leaves.

Niles has built a life of quiet routines and careful walls. But then the messages start appearingβ€”written in beautiful copperplate script on leaves left in his locked library. “You have such kind eyes.” “You shouldn’t hide from the world.”

Someone sees him. Someone has been watching for years – but Orren is bound to the turning of the seasons, and he must leave when the last leaf falls.

Niles refuses to let him go without a fightβ€”even if that means building something he’s never managed before: a community, a family, a reason to stay.

Until the Last Leaf Falls is a magical realism romance about two lonely people learning to be seen, one leaf at a time.

OUT NOW

Every love has its soundtrack.

This second collection of Power of Zero stories, follows Jack Horwood, Gareth Flynn and their home-made family through the ups and downs of their shared life.

Jack trades part of his armour for the vulnerability of a man deeply loved. Gareth learns he doesn’t always have to carry the tune alone. And Daniel, Nico, and their friends add high notes and backbeats.

Together, they’re a perfect duet of strengths: knowing when to lead, when to support, and always, always listening to the other’s heart.

These stories are the love songs of a lasting relationshipβ€”not always perfectly in tune, but heartfelt.

OUT NOW

Tempest’s music saved his soul. Now Max has to save the musician.

Hunting a gang kidnapping music fans has cost Max Young his best friend’s life, his career, and his peace of mind. But he isn’t giving up. When the kidnappers appear to target Tempest – whose music saved Max’s soul – and Max is offered the job to protect him, he doesn’t think twice.

Working with Tempest threatens Max’s heart and skews his priorities because Tempest is fighting battles of his own and needs a protector, not a man consumed by thoughts of revenge.

Max’s choices? Find his best friend’s murderer or guard the man he’s falling for. Avenge the past or protect the future. Because he can’t do both.

    Jackie,

Looking forward to ‘The Power of Zero’ as reading about Jack and Rio’s relationship has been good it will be nice to see it in a standalone novellete. I’m biased though, I look forward to everything you write (as long as you don’t go into vampires or werewolves that is LoL).

    Thanks,
    marty

I hope you like. Rio is one of my “oldest” characters, ie. he pre-dates this incarnation of Jack. In the very beginning – Jack was a girl. The story never worked until Jack became Jack. Then it was like a stack of dominoes and I was suddenly writing m/m. Power of Zero is hard for me. It was hard to write and I find it hard to edit now, especially as it drags me backwards. Jack is only twelve at the beginning. But I love Jack in Swings, so focussing on him coming this far should help me get through the edits.
And while I do write fantasy, vampires and werewolves are nowhere on my menu.

Looks like I’ll have to stop using Kobo as an eBook provider. The book will NOT download to either my PC or my cellphone even though it’s in ‘my Library’. Frustrating, so want to start reading it.

You have so many good books coming out! I had no idea a sequel for Matisse and Josh was going to come out. Rathbone and McGowan sounds good too.

Thank you! And yes, I’m having a thing for Ian and Patrick, even though it came a bit out of the blue. Swings first. That story sat around waiting for ages. πŸ˜‰

    Hi,

I just discovered the Power of Zero series and have read the entire thing this week. I love them and love Jack in particular. I sometimes want to beat Garett for not communicating. At the end of Swings and Roundabouts it says the series continues in ASimple Mistake. I can’t find the book on your coming soon or WIP pages. Is it already out, or is it a free read, or if not out do you have an estimated date? Thanks so much. I love the series and am going to be working my way through the rest of your books shortly.

Thank you so much – you just made my day! πŸ™‚
And I would have sworn A Simple Mistake was on the WiP shelf… but you’re quite correct. I’ll fix that. I’m currently working on ASM, and the follow-up, Mouse Hunt, is already done. Not sure yet when it will be out. End of this year or very early 2019 is my best guess at the moment. Meanwhile, there are a bunch of Jack & Gareth shorts and one-shots on the site and I’ll be re-organising the Free Reads section to make them easier to find.
As for their communication issues, I think they’re as bad as each other at times with Gareth bottling things up and Jack not realising that he now has someone he could be talking to. But they’re getting there, or that’s what it feels like to me. πŸ™‚

Disregard. I can see A Sinple Mistake on your WIP page now. Guessing it was an issue with my phone. Thanks!

Jackie, Just wanted you to know I’m working my list of 2018 Goodreads nominations.
Jack & Gareth – Best Established Couple; Swings & Roundabouts – Best Family Drama.
Waiting for the moderator to post: Favorite Author – Jackie Keswick and Best Main Character – Jack. I’m having trouble deciding if Swings & Roundabouts would fall under a whodunit or more intelligence/spies?

Oh, wow! Thank you so much! I certainly never thought I’d write a family drama, but that’s what happens when Gareth goes on the rescue. πŸ˜‰
I’m not one for labels, so I always struggle to find the right box for what I write. There’s not a lot real spy stuff in there. Less a whodunit and more suspense, probably. Even though there are always things to unravel… I’m not a lot of help, am I?

Any indication when the next book in the Power of Zero series, A simple Mistake, is coming. I keep re-reading the books so much via Kindl unlimited that I just had to buy them… I love the story and the characters.

Thanks so much, Franziska! I’m glad you like Jack & Gareth. My writing schedule got a little jumbled by the re-edit / re-issue of all the books at the beginning of the year. Both A Simple Mistake and Zero Tolerance are on the slate for a 2021 release. Fingers crossed everything else plays ball.

And I'm pleased to say: I AM WORKING ON IT!
I'm thinking early summer for Zero Tolerance, and autumn/winter for A Simple Mistake, barring disasters and excursions.
      They're both certainly long overdue.
