My guest today is author Thianna Durston with her latest BDSM romance, Always Protected. Everytime I finish a book, I try and remember the journey of the characters or the story and I love hearing how other writers’ books come about. Thianna Durston’s story had a particular round-about trail to complete, but she’s successfully clambered over all the obstacles and here she tells us what happened!
Characters are funny things. Some of them get inside your head and won’t let go. Such was the case of Jonathon & Benjamin from a multi-author domestic discipline romance series called Corbin’s Bend that I created five years ago. I adored them, and to my delight, fans of the series voted Jonathon as their favorite secondary character. Unfortunately, things went awry with the series and I had to walk away. The final book I wrote was a short story titled Pillar in the Snow about Jonathon & Benjamin.
A couple years ago I received the rights back to that short story, but with the issues due to the series, there wasn’t much I could do with it. And yet fans who had never had the chance to read it wanted to and kept asking for it. I had adored Jonathon & Benjamin so much that I had written quite a bit of backstory on the two. It occurred to me that I could take them, change their names, put them in another kink community, and enfold Pillar in the Snow into the novel it would become.
Jonathon & Benjamin became Kace & Falcon. The previous community became Elan Isle, which I had already written several novels about. Whereas Corbin’s Bend had been about spanking & domestic discipline, Elan Isle embraced the full BDSM spectrum.
The slightly amusing part of all of this was that I received the rights to all LGBT Corbin’s Bend books in February, but by that time the book was complete and I was not going to change it back. For one thing, once a character’s name is changed, their personality changes slightly. Kace & Falcon are similar to Jonathon & Benjamin, but there are some differences too.
But the one thing both couples have in common is their intense love for one another. Kace needs Falcon almost more than he needs the air to breathe. Falcon’s need to protect Kace covers everything he does.
And now you can read their story.
Always Protected: Pillar in the Snow is a 60,000 word M/M BDSM Romance that focuses on domestic discipline. You get to meet the men ‘now’ and see their beginnings in several flashbacks. I hope you enjoy it.
Kace & Falcon have been in a relationship for thirteen years. With Falcon in the military, they’ve spent more time apart than together. Since they live in off-base housing, Kace hides who he is. When he finds out about Elan Isle, he’s excited. Especially when he finds out that not only will their domestic discipline lifestyle be accepted, but that he and Falcon are welcomed for who they are. They no longer have to hide.
Falcon has protected Kace since the night they met. Seeing his love become emboldened by their new town is electrifying. So much so that he decides to come home for good.Kace knows having Falcon home all the time will be difficult, but he thinks it will be due to his partner missing his life in the military. He has no idea the difficulties will be his. Worries he’s never voiced pop up and desires he’s never considered become all important. While Falcon has more patience than anyone he knows, Kace fears that this desire might be the final straw.
About Thianna Durston
Thianna Durston is a writer by day and supernova by night. Or at least that’s what the faeries tell her. And who is she to deny those pesky cough lovely little creatures?
She lives in the Pacific Northwest, though her heart belongs elsewhere. In the meantime, until she can return to the place she calls home, she happily lives in a city that still thinks it’s a small town. Thankfully, it has given her muse lots of amusing places to start a story.
