Good afternoon, snippeteers! Summer has arrived in England – at the drop of a hat, too – and while I enjoy the warmth and sunshine, the tree pollen is killing me. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. I give daily thanks to the inventors of antihistamines in tablet form… until all the gorgeous blossom is gone and life returns to something that doesn’t include headaches, streaming eyes, and blurred vision.
I’m busy with work, and getting through the final checks for Swings & Roundabouts. And that’s where I’m sticking with my rainbow snippets for the time being. Last week, we were following Gareth to a meeting with Detective Inspector Hedda Stadig and he got side-tracked by a jewellery display. Now he’s actually with the detective and she wants to talk… no surprise there… about Jack. Neither is it suprising that Gareth is a little cagey.
From Swings & Roundabouts
“Your way of answering questions changed the moment I mentioned Dr. Horwood. Why the sudden… how do you say? Reluctance?”
Gareth wasn’t reluctant. He was cautious. Questions could be shaped so even innocent answers pointed to the desired conclusion. Hedda Stadig might not be planning to get Jack in trouble, but Gareth wasn’t taking chances. His confrontational stance had achieved its goal, so he straightened up and leaned back into his seat. “You want the full-length answer or a summary?”
