Good afternoon, snippeteers! I hope the weather is as gorgeous where you are. I’ve treated myself to a new little table – our old, wooden outdoor table didn’t survive the winter – and I’m writing this sitting in the garden. The new table is metal with a glass top, so will hopefully cope more easily with damp English winters. It’s also a much more comfortable height to work on without having to drag kitchen chairs outside. Now all I need is decent summer weather and I can move my office outside. Here’s to wishing. 🙂
This time next week we’re in London to see Chess, the musical. I’ve never yet managed to see it on stage, though I can sing quite a few of the songs, and I’m hoping being in town and having music will take my mind off the next day, which is Swings & Roundabouts release day.
That means there’ll only be a few more snips from Jack & Gareth’s most recent story before I move on to the next project. For now, though, there’s this. It’s a continuation of sorts from last week’s snip, where Nico and Daniel struggle with an essay in ambiguity and Jack suggests they find as many words as possible to say “he’s drunk”. Here, the two are sharing some of their findings with Gareth.

“Tell me,” he requested, not wanting to spoil Daniel’s fun.
“Jug-bitten. We found it in one of Aidan’s books.”
“By accident, I’m sure. He wasn’t pointing you towards that particular corner of his bookcase, was he?”
“He might have done. But we had to read the tome to find it. It had all those words you needed a dictionary to understand. Do you know what a redingote is?” He spoke the word with care, each syllable clear and defined.
“I think it’s a kind of coat, but I wouldn’t swear to it.”
“You’re right.” Daniel grinned so wide his ears took note, and then Nico crowded in behind him.
“And have you ever heard of someone being tap-hackled?”
Jack Horwood. Vigilante, hacker, security specialist. Partner to Gareth Flynn. Adoptive father to their two teenage boys. Happily juggling long days and short nights.
Gareth Flynn. Ex-army officer. Ace negotiator. Righter of wrongs. Family man. Away from home more often than he likes.
Desperate for a relationship reset, Jack treats Gareth to a romantic getaway and Sweden’s frigid peace gives them the break they both need. But Jack’s a trouble magnet and the next dead body just a wild skidoo ride away.
Can love, teamwork, and trust survive the troubles that follow them around? Can Jack save what’s become so important to him?
Expect action, drama, and hot romance in book 4 of the Power of Zero series.
Swings & Roundabouts will be released on Sunday, 13th May. You can pre-order it from your favourite retailer by clicking here.
