Afternoon snippeteers! And apologies for missing last week. I was racing to finish Swings & Roundabouts and send it off for edits before Jack’s birthday rolled around or a saber-toothed plot bunny took the Muse hostage and made her write something else. It’s what usually happens when I get that close to finishing something, and since Swings was already much later than I’d wanted it to be, I couldn’t let that happen.
So, for now, Jack and Gareth are telling their story elsewhere, and I’m working on Undercover Star, a lighthearted action/adventure, and would love to introduce you to pop idol Matisse Vervein and Detective Inspector Josh Ingram. Set in London and Scotland, the story starts when pop idol Matisse is pulled over for speeding and introduced to Detective Superintendent Tim Montgomery. (and apologies for going over the six sentences,)
From Undercover Star
“Are you insane?” Matisse Vervein stared at the man on the other side of the desk, thinking he couldn’t have heard what he thought he had. “Did you just ask me to go undercover?” His voice rose to something close to a screech. Matisse didn’t care. He was a singer, a pop star with a fan base of millions. He had minders, assistants, stylists and personal shoppers. He didn’t… didn’t…
“I did ask you that, yes.” Detective Superintendent Montgomery didn’t bat a lash at his outrage. “Though I didn’t quite mean it the way you heard it. We’re hunting an art thief who operates during promotional events or fundraisers. You’re at home in the environment our thief operates in and you’re known to support the arts. Nobody will question your presence. And we could use your help.”
And since this is a new story, I even have a blurb for you:
It was the stupidest idea in the history of stupid ideas. Take Detective Inspector Josh Ingram, obsessed with finding a deadly medieval locket, team him up with Matisse Vervein, a pop idol everyone considers just a pretty face…. and expect the two to hunt down an art thief.
Marissa Godwin, one of the music industry’s most respected managers, isn’t stupid. Neither is her brother-in-law, Detective Superintendent Tim Montgomery. Each is looking out for a lonely man on the verge of quitting what he does best, and both believe that their charges would make a great team.
Neither Marissa nor Tim had imagined the mayhem a music star and a detective could whip up when they accepted the attraction between them was mutual. Or how far each was prepared to go to prove it to the other.
