Good afternoon, snippetteers! It’s been a slightly more sensible week around here, as I had only one client appointment and therefore time to catch up on work and fit in some holiday planning.
I also managed to get my writing brain in gear and right now I’m trying not to spend too much time worrying whether Sound Judgement will end up as a one long novel, or a novel and two novellas. I’m sure I can sort all that out once I’ve typed The End.
For the moment, we’re still riding shotgun with Ian, Patrick, Fish, and Remy on their hunt for an illegal weapons lab. They’re in a house with exquisite steampunk decor, and Patrick is delighted. The others… not so much.
From Sound Judgement
“Sounds like a coincidence to me,” Fish posed from behind them. “A fuckin’ wacky one, but— Holy shit! I hope to god you’re wrong about this threat, McGowan.”
Patrick knelt beside the dismantled clock, ignoring anyone else in the room.
Ian turned his head to look at his friend. “What are you on about?
“Fine. Let him be right then.”
Fish had never made less sense than he did right then. But Ian had seen his evil grin often enough to know he wasn’t going to like what came next.
“You’re the one who hogties McGowan and drags his arse out of here when this place is about to go up. Because then it’s you he blames for not rescuing this priceless art or… whatever.”
The rapt expression on Patrick’s face, and the earlier delight in his voice, chimed with Fish’s claim. Patrick would not like to see this place blow up. Which meant they had to find the bomb that was allegedly hidden in this house, get rid of its payload, and make it safe.
Piece of cake, right?
