If you’re new to the snips circuit or have found me by accident…Rainbow Snippets is a Facebook group where GLTBQ writers post snippets of their work every Saturday. There are snips from every genre, kind of pairing and heat level from sweet to steamy.

Between work, family, and computer troubles I’m still mostly dipping in and out of FB rather than being around on a regular basis, but I do lurk and read, and I’ve bought a ton of books over the last weeks to keep me sane. And since it’s Saturday and I’m actually writing, I thought it’s time I posted a snip of where I’m currently stuck. It’s longer than six sentences, but I hope you forgive me for that. 😉
Shadow Realm is the continuation of my fantasy short Sword Oath and details Madan and Serrai’s tribulations after they’ve given up their lives for each other and have become Shades. Here, Serrai is guarding the gate between the worlds against Madan’s return, and Nazar is determined to distract him. Subtle, the woman is not, and Serrai has his own misgivings, of course.
From Shadow Realm
“I don’t believe you.”
“And I don’t care,” she sing-songed back. “You’re thinking about it. The longer he takes to return, the more you’ll consider the possibility that it might be true. And the more likely you are to let go and let the tear close.”
“So you say now,” she taunted. “Want me to show you what you’ve missed?”
“Really? He’s a fine-looking man. Very well endowed. But you would know that. None better, I’d say. And with admirable stamina. He left Vyn most satisfied.”
Serrai ground his teeth, but he managed to stay silent. Nazar was lying through her teeth, trying to get him riled. Her words had barbs, though. Tiny hooks that pricked and stung. He’d never asked Madan whether he wanted more, wanted other men or women. He’d never wanted anyone else, so he’d assumed that he was enough for Madan. And how had Nazar found out?
Love is stronger than death. But is it stronger than hatred?
Serrai and Madan sacrificed their lives for each other to prove their love, yet the Fates continue to test them. The Shadow Realm is at war and when the conflict threatens the human world, the Fates demand their help.
Tasked with hunting down four renegade Shades while caught on different sides of the veil between worlds, they will need Serrai’s stubbornness as much as Madan’s strength of will to survive.
Can Madan triumph over hunger, madness, and his own compassion to make it back to Serrai?
Can Serrai vanquish jealousy and doubt to hold the gate long enough for Madan to return?
Will their love prove stronger than hatred and the need for revenge?
