Good evening, snippeteers! I’m late posting today, mostly because we had to hop over to Norwich today to pick up a car. Since it’s the first nice day after five days of murk, we decided to make a day of it and treat ourselves to fish & chips by the seaside. Drifting through the Norfolk lanes is just…. tonic for the soul. And sorely needed after the last couple of weeks, which were extra busy.
For my snippet today, I’m NOT going to talk about Norfolk. I’ll leave that for another time. 😉 For now, there’s more Jack & Gareth in Sweden. We left them last week dealing with the aftermath of discovering a body – something that Jack was taking very much to heart.
In today’s snip, the Swedish detective running the case has asked to speak to Gareth – without Jack – and is meeting him at a cafe / craft shop / gallery a little way outside of Jukkasjärvi. On the way through the shop, something catches Gareth’s eye…
From Swings & Roundabouts
Woollen jumpers, reindeer skins, and pyramids of jam jars caught Gareth’s eye as he followed Hedda through the space that housed a craft shop and gallery as well as a café. The display of silver jewellery arrested his step. Front and centre, on a bed of green velvet, sat an ear cuff with a black stone shaped like a teardrop. Gareth pictured Jack wearing it and blinked, unsure where the thought had come from. Jack wasn’t fond of shiny things unless they were electronic. He didn’t wear jewellery, and his only adornment was the tattoo at his temple. And yet… Gareth snapped a photo of the cuff. And another one bearing the jeweller’s name and website address in case pigs flew one day.
And if you want to know whether Gareth did go shopping and how that turned out… I wrote a short story for Jack’s birthday a few years ago, which you can read here. (Let nobody ever accuse me of writing in chronological order!)
