Sometimes, life has a way of throwing spanners in my path. These last few months, it’s certainly been very busy doing so. The latest instalment includes website trouble of the kind that may need me to rebuild the whole thing, so it’s perhaps understandable that I’ve not been blogging as much as I would like to. I’ve not been writing quite as much, either, but… I managed to get the next Madan and Serrai story completed and it’s just gone up for sale.
I don’t have so many release days a year that I want to let real life spoil my fun, so I’m going to do battle with the website in the hope of getting a post out. It’s only fair, because if anyone knows about spanners landing in their way, it’s the king and his general. In Sword Oath, the first story in this fantasy trilogy, I made my two lovers face death and deal with it. And then I left them contemplating a happy ever after(life) at the end of the story. Only, as I can definitely attest, life (and by my guess even the afterlife) don’t work that way. Madan and Serrai don’t just have each other and their new world to explore. They have the Fates, the rulers of the Shadow Realm, to deal with as well. And the Fates aren’t slow to rope them into their latest attempt to clean up their domain.
It’s my guess that the two hadn’t planned to spend the afterlife as assassins, but – being new to the show – they knuckled down and got on with it. But when Grace, the youngest of the Fates, hands them an assignment that’s not only dangerous, but will also see them separated, neither Serrai nor Madan are happy. There’s a reason for that. Over the three years they’ve lived in the Shadow Realm they’ve learned that Grace is… economical when it comes to the truth. And that her little omissions can have dire consequences.
That they’ll take her assigment anyway says much about who Madan and Serrai are. Even if their willingness to help lands them with a tricky decision.
I’ll hope you enjoy reading Shadow Realm as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it.
And to make this release day feel real, I’m now off to wrestle my errant website into submission. Wish me luck!
Their love has defeated death. Can it defeat malice and madness?
Serrai and Madan sacrificed their lives for each other, but the quiet afterlife they’d imagined doesn’t exist. The Shadow Realm is at war and when the conflict threatens the human world, the Fates demand their help.
Hunting down four renegade Shades and surviving on different sides of the veil between worlds needs courage, stubbornness and strength of will.
Can Madan triumph over hunger, madness, and his own compassion to make it back to Serrai?
Can Serrai vanquish jealousy and doubt to hold the gate long enough for Madan to return?
Or will they end forever parted?
