Only one more day to go until Swings & Roundabouts is released. And yes, nerves… The best way to deal with those is work, but my mind isn’t cooperating regardless of what I throw at it. Right now, I’ve got three unfinished manuscripts open at once (Starstruck, Healing Glass, and The Last Raven) and I’m not making headway on any of them. Instead, I’m contemplating tonight’s dinner at one of Gareth’s favourite places, Simpson’s-in-the-Strand, which got me thinking about unwritten scenes.
I love writing shorts and snippets while I work out the characters and plots of my stories. Some of them end up in the finished product, but a greater number by far stay in my file, tantalising glimpses of events big and small. They’ve done their job, so they’re not really needed. Or that used to be my thinking until I realised that writing books isn’t good enough. Marketing is important, too, and these snippets and shorts are great for keeping in touch with you all.
There are a number of unwritten scenes in Jack’s story. Some are referenced over and over, but all I have is a couple of scribbles in a notebook. Want some examples? How about…
- The day Jack decides to join the army.
- Jack & Gareth’s first meeting.
- Gareth getting shot.
- Jack getting his tattoo.
- The case that prompted Jack to leave MI6.
- Jack meeting Skylar Payne.
- Jack meeting Clive Baxter
- How Gareth met Aidan.
- How Aidan and Alex met.
- And a raft of Daniel and Nico scenes.
And these are just mine… You’re very welcome to add scenes you’d love to see in the comments. If the Muse likes the idea, I’ll add them to the free reads. 🙂 For today, though… here’s one more of the scenes set between House Hunt and Swings & Roundabouts that didn’t make it into the new book. We already had:
When Hope has Teeth and Claws, where Jack takes a phonecall that changes everything. Then came Last Night of Freedom, where Jack and Gareth have one final evening before they tell Nico and Daniel the news. And then Gareth’s reaction to the impending changes in their lives in Hugs and Shortbread.
And now it’s time for Bookshop Mornings, and a final chance for Jack to second-guess everything.
Jack Horwood. Vigilante, hacker, security specialist. Partner to Gareth Flynn. Adoptive father to their two teenage boys. Happily juggling long days and short nights.
Gareth Flynn. Ex-army officer. Ace negotiator. Righter of wrongs. Family man. Away from home more often than he likes.
Desperate for a relationship reset, Jack treats Gareth to a romantic getaway and Sweden’s frigid peace gives them the break they both need. But Jack’s a trouble magnet and the next dead body just a wild skidoo ride away.
Can love, teamwork, and trust survive the troubles that follow them around? Can Jack save what’s become so important to him?
Expect action, drama, and hot romance in book 4 of the Power of Zero series.
