Afternoon, Snippeteers! Does anyone else struggle to find words the moment they hear a “guest post” mentioned? I’m in the middle of organising promo for Matisse & Josh, writing a freebie short, and a stack of guest posts… all while coming to grips with two new clients, a new networking group, and the fiesta of crazy shopping rapidly approaching. To top it all, I’m really late submitting my accounts. /sigh/
I’m not making too much progress with the blog post writing, but I think I’m allowed to be a little distracted. At least I got the Undercover Star files alll built and uploaded, the paperback proof ordered, and the ARCs sent out. If anyone would like a copy to review, I’d be very happy to send one across. 🙂
And now… we left Matisse last week in the process of cracking a jewellery cabinet with a hairpin to demonstrate the lack of security to Josh, his temporary body guard, only to have an alarm go off almost immediately. Here’s how he gets himself out of that mess…
From Undercover Star
The property manager turned up a second later, and Matisse waved airily. “Sorry ’bout that. I’m showing off your security, so Josh here won’t worry so much.”
“So I see.” The man wasn’t smiling. He never was. He checked the cabinet was closed and nothing was missing. He didn’t question them. Or their right to be where they were.
“Are all the staff here like this?”
Undercover Star is a standalone, feel-good romance set in England and Scotland, featuring a reluctant pop star who’s not out, a detective trying his hand at being a bodyguard, plenty of adventure, and a happy ending. And this is what it’s all about:
It sounds like the stupidest idea in the history of stupid ideas. Detective Inspector Josh Ingram wants to find a deadly medieval locket and through it, a murderer. So why does his boss decide to team him up with Matisse Vervein, a pop idol many consider just a pretty face… and expect the two of them to hunt down an art thief?
Marissa Godwin, Matisse’s no-nonsense manager, isn’t stupid. Neither is her brother-in-law, Detective Superintendent Tim Montgomery. Each is looking out for a lonely man on the verge of quitting what he does best, and both believe that their charges would make a great team.
The attraction sizzling between Josh and Matisse is hard to miss, but there’s plenty of resentment, too. Focussed on pushing Josh and Matisse towards each other, Marissa and Tim haven’t imagined the kind of trouble a music star and a detective can find when they ditch their prejudices and accept that the attraction between them is mutual. Or how far each is prepared to go to prove it to the other.

Hi Jackie,
I think you are VERY good at keeping us all informed and hungry for your your next work ! It seems like most times you have so many projects going on and also a home life to juggle. It’s not like one of the other authors I had been following, her publisher went bankrupt and all of her works were removed from my Kobo (Border’s) ebook library. I enjoyed her work and would re-read them on occasion and they were gone one day when I went in, the entire Englor series (JL Langley). Her webpage just had a single line saying the publisher went bankrupt. I just recently noticed that a few of the series are back in my ebook library so maybe she’s finally getting everything back in order, it’s been a couple of years. The worst was that she was ready to release another of the series which I was eagerly awaiting (I believe there were 4 books and the 5th on it’s way). Anyway Matisse does sound like he’s quick witted and unshakable and I look forward to reading it when it’s published. Make sure to take some time for yourself we don’t want you to ‘burn out’ feeling that writing is a chore. Have a great weekend !

Hi Marty, nice to hear from you! I think it’s pretty awful when your publisher goes bust. I’ve not been in the business for long enough, but quite a few of the more experienced authors I talk to have been through at least one bankruptcy. I imagine it can knock you for six. Also, the rights to the books don’t always come back to the author right away, so that tends to delay making the books available again.
As for Matisse, he sort of snuck up on me. I hadn’t planned on yet another project to add to the stack. I love doing what I do… all of it, the job and the writing, so I’m fine with it. I struggle to relax at times, but as long as I get excited by new projects, it’s all good… Having said that, I finished the accounts yesterday afternoon and then spent an evening on the sofa with my knitting and some wine. Now I’m as relaxed as all get out.. 🙂
Jackie,
Nice ! Something mindless and a comforting wine always make for a good evening.

Great description of the property manager!
Thank you. Their boss is quite an unpleasant creature, so I picture all the staff as doing their job and getting out.
Quite the professional!
Matisse or the property manager?
Ha! I guess he talked himself out of trouble.
He certainly did that! 🙂
Quick thinking! I wish I had that “star” power. 🙂
I admire people who can do that. I usually think of good replies two hours later!
Sounds like the property manager is quite thorough.
Yes. I had a lot more of the Kilbride House staff in an earlier draft… maybe they’ll come in useful somewhere else. 😉
That’s a good way to test the security. LOL
I hope you manage to get all your workload sorted in time, Jackie.
Right now, it’s pretty much never-ending, but at least I got the accounts done!
