Some days, I’m sure you’ll agree, are more fun than others. Today’s work to-do list is long, and rather involved, but… it’s also the day Undercover Star is officially done and off my desk! Because today is cover reveal day. And it’s the day I get to have a little fun, before the book actually comes out and things get serious. 🙂
So while we’re here and it’s still early, let’s start with that cover, shall we?
I think cover designer Emma Griffin has done a fantastic job since, as usual, I had next to no clue about what I wanted. I did have an early version of the blurb, though. And, not at all usual, I also had a selection of images that I’d used for writing inspiration. The black and white image of the singer, for one. And the Borgia locket. What Emma then did with all of that…. yep, I’m liking this a lot. So much, in fact, that I’ve asked Rachel from Signalboost PR to help me show it off.
And while I’m waiting for Rachel to kick off the celebrations, and get all revved up to join in and have fun, here are three fun facts about Undercover Star:
- Almost exactly a year ago, while I was reading the spec for Dreamspinner Press’s new house line, Dreamspun Undercover, Matisse suddenly stood there saying: “You’re insane.” He’s quite right, of course, so I wrote a few pages and put the thing aside, convinced I couldn’t possibly fluff for 50k.
- I’ve always wanted to write a story about two lockets, one of which held poison and the other its antidote. And I thought this time… this time I’m going to get there.
- Matisse’s sanctuary is a real island, even though I’ve moved the facilities around to suit him, me, and the story. And it really was for sale not so long ago. My husband coming home to ask whether I fancied buying and living on a Scottish island resurrected my three pages of crazy scribbles from the fiction box and turned them into this story. I love when everything suddenly makes sense. 🙂
There’ll be more stories, sneak peeks and fun facts in the next couple of weeks. And I’m also getting ready to take the boys around to visit a few other blogs. Saying Undercover Star was done and off my desk today isn’t strictly true, though. I’m still working on a subscriber-only freebie short story featuring Matisse & Josh. I’m hoping to have this done before the book releases, but… work. It will get done before too long, though, I promise.
Now, for the nitty-gritty:

And finally… here’s a chance at a little extra help with the book buying:
