Welcome snippeteers! It’s been a busy week, both writing and working ahead, so I can take some time off later in the month. And the dreaded 90% gremlin got a hit in, too, this time redirecting my attention from finishing my current contemporary romance, Undercover Star, to starting the next Jack & Gareth book, A Simple Mistake. In the shortest imaginable time, that plot bunny grew to 8k until I put my foot down and returned to my desk and the piles of work waiting for me.
Who says I can’t write fast?
Still, I’m determined to get the first draft of Undercover Star done before we go away and before the edits for Swings & Roundabouts land on my desk. Since there’s a little over two chapters to go on Undercover Star, I still think it’s doable, despite my to-do-list trying to swallow me whole.
So, today’s snip is again from the beginning of Undercover Star. Matisse is rather taken with Detective Inspector Josh Ingram. He’s also a bit intimidated by the man’s gruff attitude. Falling back on the snark he uses for protection almost causes him to spill a secret.
From Undercover Star
“Relax. I don’t bite.”
That’s a shame. Matisse opened his mouth, and closed it again without emitting any sound. Josh’s grip circled his bicep and urged him back to his chair. Matisse sat and kept his eyes down the better to hide his hammering heart and suddenly erratic breathing. He’d almost outed himself. A replica of Josh’s comment had been on the tip of his tongue, ready to spill forth in response. That couldn’t happen. He couldn’t let it happen.
