It’s been a very busy week – not that I mind that. It has also been frosty and sunny for the last couple of days and I can definitely get behind that. I’m making an effort to go out for a longish walk whenever there is sun, never mind how much work there is on my desk. So far it’s working, though on the days when it’s grey and gloomy I’m struggling.
For today’s rainbow snippets I’m bringing Jack & Gareth’s lengthy relationship discussion to a (temporary) close. I like Jack here, seeing how far he’s come since Job Hunt. Of course, that means that things will start going off the rails right speedily now. But fortunately, I’ve already written that whole mess and its aftermath, and I can move on to holidays and murders.
Thanks for all your comments on the recent snips. They help me take another look at what I’m doing and often trigger an idea or two… can’t say how much I appreciate that!
Now, on to introspective Jack.
From Swings & Roundabouts
In the last four months Jack had moved well past content. Nico and Daniel were his now, his and Gareth’s, and watching over the two was fascinating. He had a bunch of people around him he was almost ready to call friends, with all the commitment that came with that tag and he had Gareth – to argue with, to spend hot, sleepless nights with, to comfort and look after, to cheer and cajole. Whichever way he looked at it, he was happier than he’d ever been and he didn’t want to fuck it all up through ignorance or inattention.
Not when it felt as if Gareth wasn’t fully on board with it all just yet.
So he focused on removing obstacles, on smoothing Gareth’s path. It was the way Gareth worked and Jack had been an attentive student.
