Afternoon, Snippeteers! Apologies for missing last week’s round of Rainbow Snippets, but I had birthday celebrations to attend, and those took care of most of my weekend. My husband treated me to a tour of Warner Brothers Studios – which was fabulous, and heavy on the plot bunnies! – followed by the most unusual dinner I’ve ever eaten… also a veritable plot bunny breeding ground.
Something good came of it, though. I’m knee-deep in the sequel to Undercover Star and so don’t have time to get at all flappy over next week’s release day! I haven’t decided on a title for the new story quite yet, I’ve no idea how long it might be, but I have three lovely plot strands, an outline of sorts, and Matisse makes me laugh. Now I just hope that Mat & Josh do well enough to warrant all the upheaval…
Meanwhile, one final snip from Undercover Star. And the last time we left Mat and Josh in Kilbride House inspecting jewellery cabinets. And because this is charity gala and Matisse has standards to uphold, he next drags Josh to his wardrobe mistress to get him kitted out in the right garb. Josh isn’t remotely impressed. (And yes, sorry, it’s longer than six, but I have last week to make up for. 😉
From Undercover Star
“I cannot move in this jacket. Which means it’s too tight.”
“It means, Detective Inspector, that you have no idea what you’re talking about. This is a fitted tux, and it fits you to a T.”
“So why does it feel as if it’s trying to strangle me?”
“Because you’re used to throwing on clothes at random. And like most men, you wear yours a size too large.”
“Not his jeans, he doesn’t.” Josh spun and found Matisse leaning in the doorway, trousers unbuttoned, arms crossed over his bare chest, and nothing but malicious amusement on his face. “His jeans are perfect.”
Lynn barely graced his dark jeans with a look before she threw him a pair of trousers to go with the uncomfortable shirt and murderous jacket. “They’re okay.”
“That’s unkind, Lynn. Have you seen what the denim does to his arse? He deserves to have fangirls. Truly.”
“I’m standing right here.”
“I know. I’m rather enjoying the view.”
Undercover Star is a feel-good romance set in England and Scotland, featuring a reluctant pop star who’s not out, a detective trying his hand at being a bodyguard, plenty of adventure, and a happy ending. And this is what it’s all about:
It sounds like the stupidest idea in the history of stupid ideas. Detective Inspector Josh Ingram wants to find a deadly medieval locket and through it, a murderer. So why does his boss decide to team him up with Matisse Vervein, a pop idol many consider just a pretty face… and expect the two of them to hunt down an art thief?
Marissa Godwin, Matisse’s no-nonsense manager, isn’t stupid. Neither is her brother-in-law, Detective Superintendent Tim Montgomery. Each is looking out for a lonely man on the verge of quitting what he does best, and both believe that their charges would make a great team.
The attraction sizzling between Josh and Matisse is hard to miss, but there’s plenty of resentment, too. Focussed on pushing Josh and Matisse towards each other, Marissa and Tim haven’t imagined the kind of trouble a music star and a detective can find when they ditch their prejudices and accept that the attraction between them is mutual. Or how far each is prepared to go to prove it to the other.
