I made it! I made it! I just sent the final revision of Leap back to my editor and my brain sorta hurts. The editor working on the final version had a knack for spotting snags that everybody else had missed, so my final edit was a much larger job than I’d anticipated or planned for.
But it’s done now. Joel and Kieran’s story is on the way to the proofreaders and it’s (almost) time for me to think about promo posts and blog tours and all that other delightful stuff we all have to do.
First, though, I deserve an evening off by the fire, with curry, wine, and apple and mulled wine crumble for dessert. There’s a new book on my kindle, music on the Hifi, and some unfinished knitting in the basket. Plenty to amuse myself with while I’m making plans for the next two books on my to-be-finished slate: Swings & Roundabouts, the next Jack and Gareth book, and a standalone fantasy story: Healing Glass.
For snippets, I’m going to continue with Jack and Gareth for a bit. We left them late at night in Gareth’s kitchen, sharing hot chocolate and cinnamon toast, with Jack wondering whether Gareth sometimes wishes he had his home to himself again. Here’s another part of that convo.
From Swings & Roundabouts
“New topic,” Jack declared suddenly. He leaned his elbows on the table and rested his chin on his fists. “How does a long weekend away sound?”
“Yeah, right. Try again.”
“No. I’d love to… I’m just wondering how I could possibly clear a weekend. And—”
“Don’t sweat it.” Jack cut in quickly before the apologetic tone he was coming to hate could creep back into Gareth’s voice.
