It’s Rainbow Snippets time and I’ve finally got my act together again after finishing and submitting Leap of Faith and catching up with reall life and the work that pays the bills.
This week my offering comes from Swings & Roundabouts, the yet-to-be-finished fourth Jack & Gareth book, which I’ve started to tackle with a vengeance while I’m waiting hear about Leap
In today’s snippet we find Jack providing backup to Gareth from the sidelines and not really all that happy with it.
From Swings & Roundabouts:
Mayfair after midnight could be romantic, Jack supposed. A place for gentle strolls in the moonlight after an intimate, leisurely dinner at a restaurant where the decor was muted, the waiters invisible and the food out of this world. Somewhere streetlights washed translucent rainbows across the pavement and traffic noise dulled to a soft burble on the breeze; a place to watch lit windows blink out one by one as their owners called it a night and wonder over the lives they led; a place for murmured confidences, and steps that carried you home to red wine and cool jazz and, maybe, to soft lights and softer sheets.
Yes, Mayfair after midnight could be romantic.
Provided it wasn’t a night in mid-January that offered nothing more enticing than freezing fog and clandestine endeavors; a night that made his belly clench with nerves as he watched Raf and Gareth climb up the apartment building’s fire escape, knowing that one slip on the icy rungs would land them down in the alley with broken bones.
Rainbow Snippets is a Facebook group where every Saturday LGBTQ writers post a snippet of their work. There’s something for everyone, from sweet to hot and spicy, and it makes wonderful reading… go check it out.
