Evening, snippeteers! I hope you all had a productive week. I’m trying to get Burned Once, the Leap of Faith sequel, drafted before Leap lands on my desk for edits, but Marius and Gabriel are not cooperating. So I’ve been hiding out with Jack and Gareth.
Ever since the two met, and even more so since they met again and became a couple, Gareth has been pushing Jack to change, to take down his walls, come out of his shell and trust people. Jack is listening and doing his best and now, faced with the results of those very changes he’s pushed for, Gareth has a few moments of doubt.
From Swings & Roundabouts: Moments of Doubt
There was much about Jack that he found enticing, and not all of it was physical. Jack had changed in the sixteen months since they’d met again. Gone was the thin, driven, caffeine-powered bundle of nerves and in its place was a Jack Horwood who was sleek and content. He was as devastatingly competent as he’d always been, as ruthless and devious and unexpected, yet he was so much less closed off. He laughed and argued and shared stupid stories, put himself in situations he’d have avoided in the past – he was…alive.
It scared Gareth some days, that change, made him wonder whether what they had would last, or whether Jack would change so much that he—
“Hey.” A soft touch brought Gareth back to himself. Jack’s arms wrapped loosely around his neck and green eyes watched him carefully. “What’s bothering you?”
