Rainbow Snippets | Jackie Keswick

Good afternoon, snippeteers! I’m minus a working kitchen, and since there are building works afoot somewhere in south London, I have no idea how much internet I’m going to have today. So this is written and scheduled ahead of time. For tonight’s edition of Rainbow Snippets I’m still with Healing Glass, where we left Minel standing on the edge of his roof terrace after deciding that slowing down and patiently waiting for death wasn’t the way to honour everything he (or Falcon) stood for.

All while Falcon was braving his own fears and the invisible stairs, bound and determined to make it into the city and see Minel. Only to be faced with the sight of Minel standing on the edge of the terrace as if preparing to take flight. (And yes, Falcon is a bit of a white knight in this story…)

From Healing Glass

Falcon had never moved so fast. Plants, ornaments and furnishings blurred around him as he blew across the terrace to wrap his arms around Minel’s chest before he could think.

Minel started so violently at the sudden assault, he almost threw himself and Falcon off the roof.

Falcon held on tight and used his greater weight to drag Minel away from the edge and the fathoms of nothing that waited for him there. Shaking with fear, elation, and excess adrenaline, he buried his face in Minel’s hair. His lips found the soft skin at Minel’s temple as relief turned his knees to water. “Don’t jump. Please don’t jump.”

Oh what a beautiful scene. It is especially poignant knowing that although Meniel was not going to jump, his life is not going to continue much longer.

Maybe Falcon has something to say about that.

Oh yes. He certainly didn’t expect to be accosted on his own terrace.
